Documenting History: COVID Community Journal

As our community faces uncertain times during a worldwide pandemic, we have already seen many examples of generosity and selflessness all around St. Charles as the community works to rally and help each other during this trying time. Follow this live blog for updates as we write our collective history of this event together. Have a story or photo about COVID-19? We want to hear from you. Submitted stories and photos will be added to an upcoming display in front of the museum and shared on our social media once a week.

To submit your own journal entry or photo documenting your experience during COVID-19, visit the COVID-19 Community Collection Page.

Businesses Band Together to Help Essential Workers

One of the most amazing things about the times we are living through now is how businesses have adapted to continue to serve their customers and have volunteered to bring supplies to frontline and essential workers. Over the past couple weeks, Kim Lawson, Owner of La Mesa Modern Mexican on First Street, has worked to raise money to donate meals to first responders and healthcare workers. Other local businesses pitching in on the effort have included Craft Urban, Eden on the River, Riverside Pizza & Pub, Creations Creative Printing, and Pollyanna Brewing Company. Thank you to all local business owners for all that you have done to support frontline workers and the entire community!

A Thank You to Those Who Keep Our Communities Running

We feel so fortunate to live in Geneva where even in this dystopian time we feel connection to our community and the people who live here. Thank you Blue Goose for having disinfectant wipes when there are non to be had. Thank you Fresh Market for being so conscientious and cleaning the handles of cart for your arriving customers! And Thank you, Tea Tree in Batavia for carryout options for our favorite teas, and Thank you to Riley's drugs in Geneva for not being too busy to offer a smile with the purchase of needed masks, or thermometers. Thank you to All our very special small business that are working to continue to provide us with food, books, tools, mops and all the things we continue to need. Thank you to the restaurants for continuing to offer wonderful meal options so that when we just need something ...

Thank you to Fox Valley Literacy for encouraging tutees and tutors to continue on even when we can not meet in person. This is such a scary and lonesome time, but whenever we go on our social distancing walks we wave to neighbors and wish them well. We admire the gorgeous chalk drawings of our neighbor's kids that show heart, and pronounce love, and reminders to stay strong. Our trails and natural areas are a welcoming refuge to visit and watch the wakening of springtime in the Fox Valley.
So even in this time of social distancing and fear about a little known virus, there connections continue are deeply felt.
