About Scott Stevenson
As a composer, Stevenson is regularly commissioned by Chicago's Metropolis Symphony. His most recent work, Hymn Of Unity (Words Of John Hume), was premiered by the orchestra, choir, and Irish ensemble at Chicago's Symphony Center on March 14, 2017. Proclamation, for orchestra, choir, and Irish ensemble was premiered in March 2016. He also serves as composer-in-residence for St. Charles Singers. His setting of Unto Us Is Born A Son was premiered by the choir in December 2017. The choir's 2011 release From Out Of A Wood features his arrangement of I Wonder As I Wander. Requiem 9/11, for choir and chamber orchestra, was premiered on September 11, 2011 at the United Methodist Church of Geneva, Illinois, where he serves as Director of Music and organist. Stevenson has also written music for Chicago’s Second City.
As pianist/arranger for Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Margaret Carlson, Stevenson has appeared with orchestras nationwide, including the Syracuse, Grand Rapids, Gulf Shores and Cedar Rapids Symphonies. He has toured nationally with Famous Vacationers, Jak Makral, Samba Bamba, and the John Fournier Quintet. Stevenson was one of the founding members of Mabel Mabel, who were chosen from over 7000 bands in 2007 as semifinalists in Fox TV's The Next Great American Band. You can currently find him performing in the Chicago area with Electric Dirt, Everybody Says Yes, Gerald Dowd, Leland, The First Time Four, Tributosaurus, Frisbie, Robbie Fulks and Michael McDermott.
Stevenson’s work as a singer/songwriter can be heard on his 2010 release Perpetual Calendar, and his jazz compositions can be heard on Scott Stevenson/Randy Henry/Tim Mulvenna/Gerald Dowd. His piano and organ work can be heard on the debut Magic Box EP and The Leland Bluebird Sessions. He also plays accordion on four recordings by the strange-country group Dick Smith: Swill, Smoke Damage, Woozy, and Glad Tidins: Christmas Gouger Vol. 1.
